PlurkCAST

We’re strongly considering a weekly PlurkCAST, which would happen live over Skype with streaming video on Ustream. Would this be of interest to you as a Plurker? If so, what kind of topics would you like to see discussed?

Is the new Plurk Karma Algo a FAIL?

I believe the new Plurk Karma ALGO has several flaws that turn the site against the general idea of social networking. I’ll explain my thoughts on this during the coming week, but in the meantime you can catch a discussion going on here.

Please join the thread and let us know your thoughts on the new Plurk Karma ALGO.

Plurk Karma Experiment Results

I came home from the cottage party ~24 hours later to see the results of the karma experiment. As I was expecting my karma dropped slightly by .13 to 55.11.

At first like most people who see their karma drop for the first time I was slightly confused then realized it only makes sense. The most interesting plurkers have to use it daily because if others browse the most interesting and they haven’t logged in for a while it reflects the activity of the network poorly. Therefore the karma algo would have to factor that in. Others had mentioned it occurring and I now know for myself.

So now we know how high maintenance the relationship is and if we wish to develop it or not is totally our decision.

The Plurkable Plurk Wish List

Plurk Wish ListI’ve been a Plurkoholic lately, which is a good thing. But because of the amount of time I’ve spent on Plurk, I’ve found a lot of Plurk features, or lack there of, a bit disconcerting. Granted, Plurk is fairly new and we understand their working on a lot of upgrades and features, but I’m hoping they guys running the show can help us out with some badly needed goodies.

The following is my list:

1) Better Mobile Plurk Access
One of the reason Twitter was so easy for me to use (when it actually worked, that is) is because I used TwitteryBerry for my Blackberry religiously. I had one of my side buttons linked directly to the TwitterBerry application, meaning I could access my Tweet stream with just two clicks. From there it was very easy to navigate to private messages, replies, and update my own stream.

I realize that Twitterberry is a third party application accessing data via API, but that doesn’t change the fact that Twitter is MUCH easier to use via mobile compared to Plurk. In fact Read the rest of this entry…

Plurk Karma Trends Updated

Plurk Karma UpdateRyan Lim has again updated the Plurk Karma Trends Graphs. The graph proves our earlier assertion that Plurk is punishing loyal users by dropping Karma when a Plurker takes a day away from the site. If you look at my trend graph, you’ll see that the only dip occurred when I was off of Plurk for two and a half days.

Bloggeries is running an experiment this weekend that will likely prove this to be correct as well, although Amix recently announced that a new Karma ALGO is in place, which could yield different results. Time will tell.

Either way, you can now grab your updated graph over at Plurk Karma Trends.

Plurk Karma Experiment - Can I Have A Life?

I’ve been using Plurk like a junky lately and loving it. Just so happens that I have a life on the side of my plurking. I know I know I shouldn’t but I just can’t help it. I’m going to a cottage party and will be back in ~30 hours.

I’ve routinely seen people say wow I didn’t login yesterday and my karma went down or something to that extent. This experiment will let us know if you can build up enough karma to have a life for a day or if you need to login and post like a maniac every single day to appease the karma gods. My karma at the time of posting this is 55.24.

This is just for fun because I’ll continue using Plurk just the same as I always have BUT if it drains my karma considerably I’d equate it to a high maintenance gf or bf.

Let’s see if Plurk throws a hissy fit or let’s one of it’s fans go and have a life. At the very least this will give me something more to plurk about when I return. For what it’s worth I don’t really care if it goes down. It’s like other metrics online that have absolutely no correlation to conversions or actions. It’s just an ego stroke for those “into it” with no bearing on real life hahaha.

The experiment is here; this is my last plurk, plurk reply etc…
