I discussed this earlier today with KDFrawg, who has been talking with developers about an upcoming Plurk API. KDFrawg said it was being “finished up”. thGypsy just Plurked a link to a Live Crunch post confirming that indeed, an API is coming.
Plurk made some minor changes to the user drop down info box today. You can now view a slightly bigger picture, as well as the age of a user via the timeline/Plurk drop down info box.

Enjoy your Friday dose of Plurk related links and have a great weekend!
-Now that was a Plurking HOOT!
-Plurkiverse (we’re still curious as to why Plurkiverse used the same theme as us, but oh well. Hopefully it was just coincidence.)
-Is Plurk’s Karma System Distorting the Discourse?
-The Main Difference Between Twitter and Plurk
Many dedicated plurkers will attest the Karma system is cool but at the moment it basically just rewards activity. In a public place activity has to be of social nature to be beneficial. You could go to a busy party and just yell out disconjuncted gribbel which wouldn’t bring anything to the party and in fact would probably annoy other members.
That is what’s happening on PLURK. Many top users have the “stats” to back it up which is lot’s of responses and particularly lot’s of PLURK’s. The problem is these plurks are useless! Read the rest of this entry…
Darren Rowse recently put together a post about the average stats of all top Plurkers. The following are the averages he posted.
* # of Plurks - 838
* # of Plur Responses - 3477
* # of Friend Invites - 10.2
* # of Profile Views - 689
* # of Friends - 82
* # of Fans - 56
* Length of time on Plurk - 3 months
* Also worth noting - all of the top 10 had logged in and been active within the last 24 hours. They are all active in the short term as the long term
My read from this is that by constantly staying active and being conversational, your karma will stay on the positive move.
Here is where it gets interesting… thanks to Plurk Karma Trends, I’ve discovered that your Karma will drop by simply not logging in for a day or two. You can see my Plurk User Karma Trend Graph here.
As the graph shows, my Karma started to drop Sunday morning when I began traveling to Wisconsin. Then, yesterday I went the entire day without access to wifi or internet. It wasn’t until today that I got a chance to log back in and start Plurking again.
Sure enough… my Karma is back on the rise.
So while we do not know the ALGO for Plurk Karma, we do know that it is heavily based on constant activity.

This is the first Weird Plurk of the Week here at Plurkable.com, but it’s a doozie. Last Friday Jinfinite8 Plurked about a Plurk by agendacide that showed upside down.
I went to look at the actual Plurk and sure enough, it was showing upside down as the image shows. I can verify it is NOT a photoshop job.
Any thoughts?
I dragged my tired social media self to yet another social media site with little expectation but to find another silly waste of time to bookmark in my social networking folder, but what to my wandering eyes would appear but a delightful community full of infectious “plurkiness.” Plurk is a veritable honey pot of good times. There are those Plurking out of mere curiosity and still others swapping vids, pics, links and all the other myriad of happenings you would expect to find on a SM site; accordingly, the infamous call to action for online networking, “join the conversation,” is alive and well. And how!
“But what about Twitter?” you’re asking yourself. I can’t seem to link to the site, *cough* if that answers your question. Not to be a Twitter hater but Plurk’s success may be due in part to the current state of technical difficulties Twitter is facing; however, in all fairness to the Twittdom, their growing pains are a mirror of Twitter’s huge success of which I applaud; I am excited to see how they adapt. In the meantime, we’ve got Plurk!
As promised, I am here to offer some Plurks of wisdom and what better way to begin then looking for friends. If your offline friends are not frequent fliers in the online community, you may not know where to begin. I suggest looking for like-minded Plurkers. One trick is simply to read through the responses and connect with people you find amusing, fabulous, shiny etc… you get the picture. Another trick is to click on the color-coded action verb and look through your timeline. Voila.

Plurk highlights all the similar action verbs in your timeline screen. This may be helpful if you are looking for a thinker vs. a sharer or someone who likes to hate all over their timeline.
Lastly, browse the interesting plurkers section and cull through some of the top Plurkers as well as the recently joined noobs and the smattering of random players. You never know who will be your BPFF (best plurker friend foreva).
Until next time, Plurk it like you mean it!
Cheers,
-Katrina
