Use Plurkpix to Host Your Plurk Images

I’m a little late on posting about Plurkpix, but better late than never, right? Actually, I have several other projects running at once so Plurkable has been quiet over the past week. That being said, we’re ready to get caught up and start posting again.

PlurkpixSo let’s kick off the new round of posts for some love for Plurkpix, a new service that allows you to easily and quickly upload images, providing you with a image URL that you can use when plurking.

Now when you need an image in plurk, all you need to do is go to Plurkpix, browse to your image, click the upload button, and copy the URL provided. Pretty sweet!

Also, martinbogo has done a great job of setting the site up, and he has some expenses involved in the hosting of the site. If you have a few extra bucks and like the Plurkpix setup, please consider donating to the site to help pay the hosting bill.

Martin has done a great job with the site thus far and I’m stoked to have the service available. I’ve been looking for this type of site ever since I joined Plurk and am happy to finally have it. :D

So what is the real benefit of this service against other image-upload services like flickr?

Looks like the service is in need of money to stay online with donations. What happens to the pics I uploaded when the server shuts down?

Or am I missing something? I really like to know :-(

    Karsten,

Flickr requires that you give them login information, and hop through quite a few hoops before you can actually use a hosted .jpg image. They discourage hotlinking of images, and actually try to render an image on the fly (which many people have found is both annoying and doesn’t work on plurk.) Images from flickr also take a while to actually show up onced clicked on in plurk.

I designed the service to be fast, simple, and immediately give you a short URL to post to plurk. No logins, nothing to get in the way of the important things.

Yes, I ask for donations –instead– of advertising to keep the service running. Out of the many hundreds of people who use plurkpix, if many donate a dollar, or just 20 donate $10 in a given month .. the costs of keeping the site up are met. Lets face it, it’s not a lot of money. People spend more than that on a sodas every month.

So, I promise to keep the site going, pay attention, keep it stable, and innovate new features that people request or find useful.

‘when’ the server shuts down? Well, I’d like to think it will stick around for a long, long time.

    Sincerely,
    Martin Bogomolni

The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means and the exercise of ordinary qualities. These may for the most part be summed in these two: common-sense and perseverance.
