Ryan Lim has again updated the Plurk Karma Trends Graphs. The graph proves our earlier assertion that Plurk is punishing loyal users by dropping Karma when a Plurker takes a day away from the site. If you look at my trend graph, you’ll see that the only dip occurred when I was off of Plurk for two and a half days.

Bloggeries is running an experiment this weekend that will likely prove this to be correct as well, although Amix recently announced that a new Karma ALGO is in place, which could yield different results. Time will tell.

I discussed this earlier today with KDFrawg, who has been talking with developers about an upcoming Plurk API. KDFrawg said it was being “finished up”. thGypsy just Plurked a link to a Live Crunch post confirming that indeed, an API is coming.

Plurk made some minor changes to the user drop down info box today. You can now view a slightly bigger picture, as well as the age of a user via the timeline/Plurk drop down info box.

Many dedicated plurkers will attest the Karma system is cool but at the moment it basically just rewards activity. In a public place activity has to be of social nature to be beneficial. You could go to a busy party and just yell out disconjuncted gribbel which wouldn’t bring anything to the party and in fact would probably annoy other members.

That is what’s happening on PLURK. Many top users have the “stats” to back it up which is lot’s of responses and particularly lot’s of PLURK’s. The problem is these plurks are useless! Read the rest of this entry…
