Plurk Haz Page Rank

I woke up this fine Saturday morning and immediately noticed that the google pagerank toolbar had updated on sites across the board. Obviously I realized Plurk had received page rank as it’s always the first and last stop on any episode I have on the interwebz.

The main plurk page didn’t do so well but I’m glad to see that the plurk blog received a page rank 6. Another thing that’s interesting is that actual plurk user profiles received page rank.

My account on plurk received a page rank of 4 and the highest I’ve seen on another member profile thus far is a 5. That being said I’ve only been on plurk for about 30 minutes since waking up so I’m sure many many many profiles have received an update.

I don’t think we need anymore proof that Plurk is BRAND NEW. When is the last time you were part of a social media network when it received it’s full page rank update? Before this update I had never seen any page rank on plurk except for maybe the front page having a 1 with the rest N/A.

I don’t see any reason why plurk wouldn’t be in good graces with the search engines but this is great news for plurk and all its users. It’s another forward step towards the inevitable day when Plurk hits critical mass.

Stay tuned for more things Plurk,

- Rob

Use Plurkpix to Host Your Plurk Images

I’m a little late on posting about Plurkpix, but better late than never, right? Actually, I have several other projects running at once so Plurkable has been quiet over the past week. That being said, we’re ready to get caught up and start posting again.

PlurkpixSo let’s kick off the new round of posts for some love for Plurkpix, a new service that allows you to easily and quickly upload images, providing you with a image URL that you can use when plurking.

Now when you need an image in plurk, all you need to do is go to Plurkpix, browse to your image, click the upload button, and copy the URL provided. Pretty sweet!

Also, martinbogo has done a great job of setting the site up, and he has some expenses involved in the hosting of the site. If you have a few extra bucks and like the Plurkpix setup, please consider donating to the site to help pay the hosting bill.

Karma or Friends? What Really Matters?

Why are you using Plurk? Are you an angry teenager who wants to show off to his friends with his karma score or are you an internet marketer, engineer, designer, consultant or enthusiast? Are you looking to for another ego stroke that does nothing for you or are you looking to make new connections and create?

Connections are what social media is all about in my mind. Everyone that I know on Plurk now was always online; I just never knew how or where to contact them. Now it’s easy you simply join their conversation and if you feel like it even add them as a friend. That’s how relationships are built; mutual respect.

What kind of stuff can go down through social media? Here’s an example; you run a large resource in a niche and find someone else with a similar one. You talk a bit over social media then go straight to the phone. The result? A new collaboration between two companies that work well together. Another example; meet some people from your niche who are an authority. Just because you aren’t known yet doesn’t make you any less competent. Connect with these people and give them something of value for their site and in return you get added exposure. This is through networking; making friends. Read the rest of this entry…

PlurkCAST Contest… you could win!

PlurkCASTHere it is… the much anticipated July PlurkCAST contest!

What is it?
The PlurkCAST Contest is a contest for all Plurkers. You’ll be able to win prizes such as t-shirts, games, movie tickets, online guides, advertising and more!

When?
The contest will take place live on the air during the weekly PlurkCAST at 4:00 PM Central, 5:00 PM Eastern on Wednesdays. Winners will be randomly chosen (see rules explained below)

How can I win?
The purpose of this contest is to help promote the PlurkCAST show. The show will move to a video, live stream format in August, and we hope to have several hundred Plurkers tuning in live by that time. So, in order to maximize the contest promotion possibilities, we’ve created a ticket system that will give you multiple chances to win.

Below you will see a list of actions you can take to get drawing tickets. Each ticket will be assigned a number. On the show KDFrawg will choose a number randomly for each prize (he will not know what number is assigned to each ticket), and I will look up that number to determine the winner of each prize.

1) Plurk about the contest and link to this post = Two tickets
If you Plurk about the contest, including a link to this post, you’ll get two tickets.

2) Plurk about PlurkCAST = Three tickets
That’s right… we need all the attention for PlurkCAST we can get! We want our chat room bustling with action, and we want as many Plurkers calling in as possible. If you Plurk about the PlurkCAST, linking to the official PlurkCAST page, you’ll pick up an extra three tickets. (PlurkCAST URL: http://plurkable.com/plurkcast/)

3) Sign up for e-mail updates to Plurkable.com = One ticket

If you’re already a member of Plurk Junkies please let us know in your comment on this post and you’ll still get the ticket.

This gives you SEVEN chances to win!!!

Finally, and most importantly (we’ll get to the prizes in a moment), you MUST comment on this post to be eligible. In your comment you want to use the same e-mail address you use to sign up for e-mail updates, and you want to include your Plurk user profile URL, as well as your Facebook use rname. This way we can check to ensure you get your tickets.

Plurk Karma - Why Stop the Fun at 50?

Follow the Path to EnlightenmentIn Plurk when you reach 50 on the karma scale and get the latest upgrades; the fun just sorta stops. Sadly there are no more background colors, plurk buddies, emoticons, fun new stuff…

One area that could definitely use an upgrade is the ways to express yourself. Would be nice if your choices increased in accordance with your karma. A few suggestions off the top of my head include admits, dislikes, wonders, found, eat, yells, hears etc… Also maybe give users a greater ability to talk past tense?

Please join the discussion on this plurk page.

Plurk users with 50+ karma are the most dedicated users of the network. Shouldn’t they Read the rest of this entry…

The Plurking fun just keeps on rolling in. Today I launched a new little game. I’m calling it The Great Celebrity Plurk Off! It is essentially a polling system to measure the consensus of the Plurk world. Oh and it’s very simple too!

This week were going to the gauge who the top male actors in Hollywood are. If you head on over to MikeonTV.com/Plurk you will see the current status of the polling and from there get in on the fun yourself. This isn’t a clever ploy to increase karma, Read the rest of this entry…
